Project Title: Combating sexual exploitation of girls through investigation and rescue.
Project period: 1-1-2019- 31-12-2019
Project location: Dhaka and 11 brothel areas in: Tangail, Daulatdia, Bagerhat, Bania Shanta, Patuakhali, Mymenshing, Jamalpur, Jessore and Faridpur.
The overall objective of the project is: To combat sexual exploitation of girls through appropriate investigation and rescue.
The specific objectives of this project are:
- To assess the current situation of the sexual exploitation of girls in different geographical areas where the brothels are situated;
- To establish a strong investigation and rescue team to identify the victims and rescue them.
Goal of the project: To promote the access of the victims to the formal justice system through providing legal support.
1.1. The project will arrange a short training for the investigation and rescue team consist 6 persons (5 members of the team and 1 team head) to strengthen their capacity so that they can perform their task perfectly. The team will carry out the activity to investigate and rescue the victims who are being sexually exploited at brothel level.
1.2. A short refresher training will be organized for the existing investigation and rescue team members to equip them on how to investigate the survivors and rescue them.
1.3. Monthly coordination meeting will be organized with the investigation and rescue team of BNWLA to know the progress and challenges of the project and how to support the team to speed up the activity.
1.4. The investigation and rescue team of BNWLA will travel to 11 brothels sites to assess the situation of commercial sexual exploitation of children at the Brothels. The team will prepare a short report focusing the number and age of girls who are being sexually exploited in all the Brothels or in the risk of sexual exploitation.
1.5. Depending on the assessment report the existing investigation and rescue team of BNWLA will carry out 30 investigations in the whole project year to find out the girls who are being sexually exploited at Brothels.
1.6. To carry out the investigation and rescue the girls from the victimized situation 22 number of sensitization meetings will be conducted prior to sensitize the local police to get their full cooperation during investigation and rescue.
1.7. After performing every investigation, with the help of law enforcing agencies the investigation and rescue team will organize and execute raids to rescue the SW’s girls’ children who are being sexually exploited. A total of 22 raids will be executed and 50 girls who are being sexually exploited will be rescued from 11 brothels.
1.8. After rescuing the girls from the victimized situation 25 girls will be handed over to their legal guardian within 15 days of rescue.
2.1. After rescuing the girls from the victimized situation, the project will receive approximately 50 complaints from them. All the complaints will be registered in a professional manner.
2.2. Based on the case filing BNWLA will provide legal advice to 50 clients who required.
2.3. After receiving the complaint BNWLA will conduct 15 fact findings to know the facts/ background of the complains.
2.4. Based on receiving complain and conducting fact findings BNWLA will initiate to filling 10 cases in the court round the project period.
2.5. Based on the case filing BNWLA will provide legal service to 10 rescued girls who filed the case.
3. The project will organize an exchange visit to India to see the success and mechanism of investigation and rescue. The team of 6 professional of BNWLA will join the exchange visit and they will utilize the learning to BNWLA when they back.
